Category: Announcement, Themepark, Travel, WorldUS Disney has decided to set up a Disneyland in Shanghai, which will come into service in 2013, said sources familiar with project.
Some top executives of US Disney came to Shanghai in December 2008 to discuss related details. Shanghai Lujiazui Finance & Trade Zone Development Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone Development Co., Ltd. would participate in the development of Disneyland, according to the sources.
Local media reported last November that related parties decided to develop Disneyland in Huanglou, which is located in the border between Pudong Chuansha and Nanhui Districts. Huanglou is just dozens of minutes’ travel to Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
Disneyland is believed to stimulate consumption in hotel, catering and traffic sector and its franchise products and advertisement can bring more profit streams to Shanghai. Shanghai may open Disney Chinese TV channel as requested by the US Disney.
